When I say 2017 is a fresh blank page  I mean that literally. As I type this I am facing my very clean, very blank whiteboard where I post sales for the year. It is a large reminder of what opportunities lay ahead. I confess right now it looks a little intimidating! But I go through this every year and at every year’s end through God’s blessing and hard work the blank space gets filled in and I can reflect on the opportunities I pursued over the year. It’s always humbling to see that the vast majority of closings are by past clients and referrals from past clients, colleagues and friends. One of my goals going into this year is to  really live out my slogan, “Superior Service = Maximum Results” and provide the very best service and attention to folks

If you are like most folks, right now you’re probably running in six different directions buying gifts, decorating your home, planning which Christmas events to attend and more! If this sounds a little stressful may I make a few suggestions on how to give yourself permission to BREATHE?

1. Take some time to slow down and interact. Christmas is a great time to just be with people we love and appreciate PRESENCE over presents.  Most of us when asked what our favorite Christmas memories are reflect on a funny or meaningful experience with people we love rather than a gift we received.  Make your plans with others low-key and informal where conversation and laughter can flow naturally.

The number of homes under contract to sell in February 2015 increased to their highest level since June 2013, thanks to big gains in the Midwest and West, according to the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. 

NAR’s Pending Home Sales Index measures the number of homes that have sold, but haven’t yet made it to the closing table. The index has increased year-over-year for six consecutive months and is above 100 — considered an average level of activity — for the 10th consecutive month. 

NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun attributes the gains — and the prospect for an uptick in sales in the coming months — to an “improving labor market, mortgage rates hovering around 4%, and the likelihood of more renters looking to hedge against increasing rents.”

  • CHECK ALL WINDOW AND DOOR LOCKS FOR PROPER OPERATION - Windows that can be opened by breaking the glass and unlocking them are less effective deterrents to criminals. Check with the hardware store for window lock alternatives. All exterior doors should have dead bolt locks.
  • OTHER SAFETY IDEAS FOR STAIRS: Tile and painted wood or concrete stairs can be slippery when wet or when a person’s shoes are wet. Resurface the treads with slip- resistant strips near the stair nosing. All stairs of at least three risers should have a handrail.  Do not store items on the stairs.

Earlier this afternoon the United States Senate voted 72-22 to approve the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (H.R. 3370). The Senate acted quickly to pass the bill as amended by the House to avoid the need for a conference committee to reconcile any differences. The new bill further reins in and holds the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) accountable for the Biggert-Waters implementation issues.


As passed, the bill repeals FEMA's authority to increase premium rates at time of sale or new flood map, and refunds the excessive premium to those who bought a property before FEMA warned them of the rate increase. The bill limits premium increases to 18% annually on
